Many home purchases are made because the home had a much wanted bay window. There is usually seating available with which to sit back and read, or simply gaze upon a rose garden as the days of yesterday come rushing back. Of course, once the previous owners have moved out and the window is now bare, the question arises as to what kind of affordable, yet unique bay window treatments should be undertaken for the best view and attractiveness possible.

Perhaps there is a desire to match the bay window treatments to other windows in the home, or the decision to let the bay window stand out on its own may be chosen. Because there is a built in window seat, fabric can be chosen to complement both window and seat to match, or one may choose a dominating color with a print to bring out a certain color. Children especially, love bay windows, because they can curl up there and if there are drapes surrounding it, they may feel as if they are in their own little fort of privacy, or up on a stage performing for an eager audience.

Maybe the desired effect is to be able to look outside, yet not want anyone to be able to see inside. If so, there are bay window treatments with sheer curtains which remain closed at all times, with drapes positioned on the sides of the window. Light still enters, but during the evening, heavier drapes may be drawn for privacy. These are also great for retaining the color of furniture and the fabric on the window seat, because they filter out the sunlight.

Another of the most popular bay window treatments, are shutters. Shutters may be installed halfway up, so as to allow light inside, but then closed at night for total privacy. Shutters come in wood grain or many other colors to match the decor chosen. Even easier and no installation necessary, are the free standing screens. Prints, colors, designs, and imagination are what makes up a privacy screen. Simply stand it in front of the window during the night, then move it during the day. Nothing could be easier.
